Reliance Jio has finally announced its much-awaited FTTH services, the Jio GigaFiber. The GigaFiber is Reliance Jio’s own FTTH Home broadband solution which will offer internet speeds upto 1 Gbps. The Jio GigaFiber and hhJio GigaTV will be available in 1,100 cities across India starting from August 15.

New users who will subscribe to Jio GigaFiber will also get access to a router and Jio GigaTV. The Jio GigaFiber set-top box can be used to make HD voice and video calls to other Giga TV devices or mobile users across the country.

It is Reliance Jio’s fiber based broadband solution which will offer fixed-line internet services with speeds upto 1Gbps. The Jio GigaFiber is an optical fibre based broadband solution to offer superior speeds over wired internet connections.

 

Why Jio GigaFiber?

Mukesh Ambani mentioned that most of the broadband users utilise fixed-line connectivity for more than 80 percent of their data consumption. But, India has one of the lowest internet broadband speeds in the entire world.
Currently, India ranks on the 134th position globally in terms of fixed-line broadband connectivity.

 

What’s Reliance Jio’s Plan?

Reliance Jio is planning to fill in the gap, and in order to pump up the broadband sector, the company has launched its own first-class fixed-line connectivity. Reliance Jio aims to take Jio GigaFiber and India to the top five in the list.
Reliance Jio has already invested over Rs 250,000 crore to build the digital infrastructure required for Jio GigaFiber.

The new subscribers of Jio GigaFiber will get an exclusive Jio GigaTV Set Top Box (STB) with the GigaFiber connection. You can use the Jio GigaTV to make HD voice and HD video calls. It can be used to make calls from TV to TV and TV to smartphones or tablets using voice commands.
